La Finca Dulce Vida translates to “The Sweet Life,” and the sweet life is what we found on this farm. When we started in 2019, there was little more to the property than overgrown vegetation and a partially dilapidated building. Dulce Vida is nestled into a hillside, with the main building and casitas sitting atop. We began by clearing out the different natural layers on the hill, first for the chickens, then the garden and bees, and finally for the livestock.
Construction began in February 2020 by repairing the main building into a commercial kitchen, bathroom, and open pool house. We designed this structure with a clear image in mind- a place for many to gather, share and enjoy all the beauty the island offers. The table was built to seat over twenty people, and we have used it many times to host friends and family!
Countless hours of love and labor have been poured into this project; it was not a quick and easy venture! We took on the help of friends, then family to help us achieve where we are today.
First came the chickens, about thirty rescues! We have experienced chicken keepers for five years, but that didn’t prepare us for mischievous goats! Before we knew it, our thirty chickens expanded to over sixty, four geese, eleven goats, two donkeys, six barn cats, and two livestock guardian dogs.
Our sweet life is constantly changing, but our original goal, sharing this slice of paradise with others, has never changed. Our mission is to show others how to connect back with nature and your roots.
